Zynga is set to launch a major update for Game of Thrones: Legends later this month, introducing a new Bolton-inspired faction called "The Way of Whispers." The overhaul aims to deepen team-building mechanics through faction restructuring and the addition of 17 new dual-faction Legendary Champions.
"The Way of Whispers" introduces Bolton-style combat mechanics
Zynga is introducing a new faction titled "The Way of Whispers" to the Game of Thrones: Legends roster. According to the report, this Bolton-themed group will focus on specific combat behaviors, namely Bleed effects and tactical dodges designed to let enemies defeat themselves through attrition.
This move arrives as part of a broader effort to address long-standing player criticisms regarding a "shallow roster" and a perceived "lack of star power" within the game. By reorganizing how factions function, Zynga aims to make smaller groups more viable for team building, moving away from a meta that previously favored a few dominant, oversized groups.
17 new Legendary Champions to expand faction depth
The upcoming update will feature 17 new dual-faction Legendary Champions, a move intended to significantly increase the variety of possible team combinations. As the report states, these new additions will not remove any existing Champion's current faction affiliations, allowing for more complex squad building without losing previous progress.
Beyond the new Legendaries, several existing groups are being rebranded or expanded to provide more identity and depth. The Free Folk will now be known as "Beyond the Wall," the Greyjoys will transition into "Lords of the Tide," and the Brotherhood Without Banners will expand into the "Scattered Banners" faction. Additionally, a brand-new faction called "Sun's Dominion" will debut to provide fresh gameplay opportunities .
Balancing the meta with Gem Resistance and Resilience
To prevent certain teams from becoming overwhelmingly powerful, Zynga is implementing new mechanics to standardize faction buffs. The update will introduce diminishing returns for teams that attempt to activate multiple faction bonuses simultaneously, ensuring that multi-faction squads do not become disproportionately strong compared to single-faction builds.
Players will also have to contend with three entirely new statistics: Gem Resistance, Crit Resistance, and Resilience. These additions, along with adjustments to gem damage, Poison,and various defensive abilities, are designed to add a layer of strategic depth to the combat system that was previously missing.
Will Ramsay or Roose Bolton eventually join the lineup?
Despite the heavy Bolton influence in the new "Way of Whispers" faction, the update currently lacks any acctual Bolton Champions.. This leaves a significant question for the community: will iconic characters like Ramsay or Roose Bolton be added in a future patch to complete the theme?
The absence of these characters is notable given the rich lore surrounding the family.
