Victoria’s vibrant arts and culture scene is taking center stage this week with VIBE.tour, a showcase of diverse talent and projects.
Corneille: A Story of Resilience
The spotlight shines on singer-songwriter Corneille, a celebrated artist with a Polaris Prize and five gold albums in Canada. He also achieved a groundbreaking milestone – the first French-language song to surpass one billion streams on Spotify.
Corneille faced a significant challenge with a frightening vocal injury that threatened his career. Through perseverance, his voice returned, leading to a JUNO nomination for his latest album. His presence on VIBE.tour offers a unique opportunity to connect with an artist who has overcome adversity.
Short Circuit Film Festival: Local Filmmaking on Display
VIBE.tour also highlights the local film community with the fourteenth annual Short Circuit Film Festival, presented by CineVic. This year’s festival features twenty-two short films from Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
A Regional Focus
The festival toured Tofino, Courtenay, and Nanaimo before arriving in Victoria. Films include an examination of the Point Ellice Bridge collapse, a time-travel western set in Brentwood Bay, and a documentary about an unhoused man finding solace through music.
The festival takes place on Friday, May 1st and Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, with screenings at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. each night.
TELUS Original Series: Food, Identity & Conservation
A new three-part TELUS original series, co-hosted by Victoria-based filmmaker Chef Lee and Hannah Sung, is also featured. The series explores Korean food, identity, and ocean conservation in the Pacific Northwest.
Exploring the Pacific Northwest
Spot prawns, oyster farming (including Fanny Bay oysters), kelp, and coastal food systems are central themes. The series is a personal exploration of Chef Lee’s Korean-Canadian heritage and a celebration of cultural richness.
Filming took place in Nanaimo and other Island locations, emphasizing the region’s unique character and resources. The series offers a fresh perspective on food, culture, and sustainability.
