The first film earned $524 million worldwide, and the subsequent sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, performed similarly with nearly $544 million in global box office receipts. The current trend suggests that the audience's appetite for this specific iteration of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's detective has not waned in nearly two decades.
From a 2011 script announcement to the "movie gods"
The jourrney toward Sherlock Holmes 3 has been defined by a series of missed deadlines and shifting leadership. As reported, Warner Bros. Pictures first announced that a script was being written in October 2011. By 2018, the studio had set a firm release date of December 25, 2020, which was later pushed to December 22, 2021.
