455 Films has released a preview of the special features for the documentary 'To The Journey: Looking Back at Star Trek: Voyager', which was funded through a highly successful Indiegogo campaign.

Documentary Origins and Initial Release

The project, recognized as Indiegogo’s most funded endeavor, began with premiere events in New York and Los Angeles in November 2024. These events allowed Indiegogo backers an exclusive first viewing and interaction with executive producers and cast members.

Digital copies were delivered to backers in spring 2025, coinciding with Star Trek: Voyager’s 30th anniversary. However, rising production and distribution costs led 455 Films to independently manage the physical release to reach a broader audience.

Sizzle Reel and Blu-ray Content

The Transporter Room’s YouTube channel recently unveiled an 11-minute sizzle reel showcasing the bonus content on the 3-disc Blu-ray set. This provides a behind-the-scenes look at the documentary’s extensive features.

Extensive Interviews with Cast and Crew

The Blu-ray features new, exclusive interviews with a wide range of Star Trek: Voyager alumni, including Kate Mulgrew, Jeri Ryan, Robert Beltran, Robert Duncan McNeill, Tim Russ, Roxann Dawson, Ethan Phillips, Garrett Wang, and Robert Picardo.

The documentary also includes contributions from George Takei, and poignant interviews with the late executive producer Jeri Taylor, Shawn Piller (son of the late Michael Piller), John de Lancie, Armin Shimerman, Vaughn Armstrong, Andrew Robinson, and Jeffrey Combs.

Production Updates and Future Plans

Producer and co-director David Zappone announced on Facebook that Blu-ray and DVD manufacturing has begun, with shipping expected in June 2026. He assured purchasers that the release will exceed their initial investment.

The standard 3-disc set will contain nearly nine hours of content. 455 Films is also exploring options to incorporate the special features into streaming versions for those who already have digital copies.

A Celebration of Star Trek: Voyager

The documentary is presented as a celebration of the series and a testament to fan support. It offers a unique opportunity to hear from those who created the show, providing insights into the creative process and lasting bonds formed during production.

With the future of the Star Trek franchise at Paramount Skydance uncertain, owning the documentary on physical media allows fans to celebrate the series’ impact and the spirit of the USS Voyager.
