Saturday Night Live recently mocked King Charles III’s US tour, delivering pointed jokes about members of the British Royal Family.

Royal Family Targeted in SNL Skits

The comedic sketches, coinciding with the King’s historic visit, didn’t shy away from controversial topics. Jokes branded Meghan Markle as an “American terrorist” and referenced President Trump’s association with Prince Andrew, the King’s disgraced brother.

‘Weekend Update’ Jabs

The program’s ‘Weekend Update’ segment, hosted by Michael Che and Colin Jost, opened with jabs at the King’s meetings with American political figures. Che referenced New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s prior statement regarding the Koh-i-Noor diamond and its potential return to India.

Jost then turned his attention to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, framing the King’s visit as a mission to secure the release of a “British hostage” held by an “American terrorist” – a clear reference to Markle.

Trump and Prince Andrew Connection

The satire continued with a focus on former Prince Andrew and his connection to Donald Trump. Jost highlighted the gift King Charles presented to Trump – a golden bell from HMS Trump, a World War II submarine – and quipped about the King’s suggestion to “give us a ring” should Trump need to contact the royals.

A sketch displayed an image of Prince Andrew, with Jost adding that Trump could simply find him saved in his phone as “Andrew (Island).” This joke alludes to the controversy surrounding Prince Andrew’s association with Jeffrey Epstein.

King Charles' US Tour & Criticism

The comedic barbs followed the conclusion of King Charles’s three-day tour, which included stops in Washington D.C., New York City, and Virginia. The visit, his first as monarch, was largely considered successful, featuring a speech to the US Congress and meetings with leaders.

However, the trip wasn’t without awkward moments, such as Trump’s remarks about the King’s views on Iran and nuclear weapons during a White House state dinner.

Omission of Jeffrey Epstein Scandal

The King’s visit also drew criticism from US lawmakers. California Democrat Ro Khanna expressed disappointment that King Charles did not address the Jeffrey Epstein issue during his speech to Congress, despite assurances from the British Ambassador.

Khanna argued the omission was a “moral failure” and indicative of “elite impunity.” He specifically mentioned meetings with family members of Virginia Giuffre, emphasizing the disrespect shown by the King’s silence. Republican Nancy Mace also commented on the omission, suggesting the King deliberately avoided the topic.
