A new biopic directed by Antoine Fuqua about Michael Jackson, the artist who revolutionized popular music and music videos, has been released in the US and UK on April 24th. The film chronicles Jackson’s life, from his beginnings with the Jackson 5 to his celebrated solo career.

The Jackson Family Legacy

Jaafar Jackson, son of Jermaine Jackson, portrays the iconic singer in the film. While the biopic focuses on Jackson’s achievements – including hits like ‘Billie Jean,’ ‘Beat It,’ ‘Thriller,’ and the legendary ‘Moonwalk’ – it has faced criticism for its limited exploration of the serious child abuse allegations that surfaced later in his life.

Joe Jackson: A Complex Figure

Joe Jackson was instrumental in the success of the Jackson 5 and significantly influenced Michael’s development. His demanding methods and rigorous training are believed to have contributed to the pressures Michael experienced throughout his life.

Following Michael’s death, Joe played a key role in managing the Jackson estate and received recognition for his contributions to music. He passed away in Las Vegas in 2018 at the age of 87 from pancreatic cancer and is buried alongside his son in Los Angeles.

Katherine Jackson: A Mother’s Enduring Support

Katherine Jackson provided unwavering support to Michael throughout his life. He dedicated his ‘Thriller’ album to her, a tribute echoed by his sister Janet with ‘Rhythm Nation 1814.’

After Michael’s death in 2009, Katherine became the guardian of his three children: Prince Michael, Paris, and Bigi. A temporary suspension of her guardianship occurred in 2012 due to a period of uncommunication, later attributed to a health spa visit.

In 2017, Katherine passed full-time guardianship to her grandson, TJ Jackson, citing her age and the children’s maturity. Now 95 years old, Katherine resides in Calabasas, California, with TJ and his family, remaining involved in her grandchildren’s lives.

The biopic serves as a reminder of the lasting impact of fame, family dynamics, and the controversies that marked Michael Jackson’s life and career.
