The Third Avenue Art Museum is currently hosting The Tabi: Collectors Exhibition, a celebration of Maison Margiela’s iconic cloven-toe shoe. Open from Thursday to Sunday, the exhibition offers an in-depth look at the global phenomenon surrounding this distinctive design.
A Tribute to the Tabi Community
The exhibition, titled The Tabi: Collectors Exhibition, highlights the shoe’s influence as a form of self-expression. It showcases the personal collections of nine Tabi enthusiasts, providing a unique perspective on how the shoe is embraced, customized, and preserved.
Personal Archives on Display
Collectors including Marta de Megni, Menthae, Zhiyu Wang, Zion.T, Theaster Gates, Jerami Grant, Pandora Graessl, Eléonore Guignot and the Mor family are sharing their personal archives. These include photography, rare Tabi models, and recreations of their personal wardrobes. Visitors will gain insight into the Tabi’s impact on individual lives and styles.
Immersive Experience & Maison Margiela Café
Beyond the shoe displays, the Third Avenue Art Museum features the Maison Margiela Café. This space allows visitors to relax and further immerse themselves in the world of the Tabi.
A Chronological Journey
The café showcases archival Tabi styles, from the original spring-summer 1989 boot to recent designs like the Artisanal Tabi Claw. This provides a chronological overview of the shoe’s evolution and enduring relevance in the fashion industry.
