Jason Ritter has expressed his continued enthusiasm for potentially appearing on the CBS series Tracker, starring Justin Hartley. He jokingly suggested he would happily play the role of someone in need of being saved by Hartley’s character.
Crossover Ideas and Character Potential
Ritter, 46, shared his thoughts with Us Weekly, playfully proposing a potential crossover between Tracker and the reboot of Matlock, which stars Kathy Bates. He envisions his character, Julian, seeking the expertise of Colter Shaw (Hartley) in tracking, potentially as a career change.
On-Set Banter with Skye P. Marshall
Ritter previously suggested a partnership between the two characters, describing it as a duo of “rugged” individuals. However, his co-star, Skye P. Marshall, offered a different perspective, playfully suggesting Ritter would be better suited as the one being kidnapped.
Marshall recounted Ritter’s attempts to embody a rugged persona, complete with squinting and a James Dean-esque pose, which she found amusingly unconvincing. She believes Ritter excels at portraying characters who require assistance.
Embracing the 'Damsel' Role
Ritter readily acknowledges Marshall’s assessment, admitting he would likely be quickly captured in a real-life Tracker scenario, relying on Colter Shaw for a rescue. He humorously described his character’s potential fate, emphasizing his aptitude for playing someone in need of saving.
Us Weekly playfully suggested Ritter could take on the role of Hartley’s next “damsel in distress,” to which Ritter enthusiastically agreed, offering his services to Hartley “anytime.”
The Appeal of a Crossover
The potential crossover is appealing due to the contrasting natures of the two shows. Tracker focuses on Colter Shaw, a skilled survivalist who locates missing persons for a fee. Matlock centers on Madeline Kingston, a wealthy retiree who works as a legal investigator in disguise.
Ritter’s suggestion of Julian transitioning from the legal world to tracking provides a plausible narrative link. The playful dynamic between Ritter and Marshall suggests potential comedic moments within a crossover event.
Tracker currently airs on CBS on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET, with episodes available on Paramount+ the following day.
