Rapper J. Cole has returned to the United States after a short stint playing professional basketball in China. His time with the Nanjing Monkey Kings of the Chinese Basketball Association was cut short after only one game due to visa complications.
Visa Issues Halt Basketball Career
Jermaine Cole, the Grammy Award-winning artist, stated that the process of obtaining a work visa took longer than expected. This delay limited his participation to a single game before he had to depart.
The rapper expressed his desire to return for a more extended period next year. He conveyed this to the team management, contingent on completing his tour commitments and maintaining his physical condition.
Debut Game Performance
Cole played his sole game on April 11th against the Guangzhou Loong Loons. During his eight minutes on the court, he recorded one rebound and one assist but did not score, missing all five of his field goal attempts.
J. Cole's Basketball Journey
This venture marks another chapter in Cole's ongoing involvement with basketball. He previously played three games for the Patriots Basketball Club in the Basketball Africa League in 2021, scoring five points in total.
In the spring of 2022, Cole signed with the Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League. He played four games for them, averaging 2.4 points, 0.6 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game.
Previous Departures
His departure from the Scarborough Shooting Stars was due to pre-scheduled concert tour commitments. These prior obligations made it impossible for him to continue playing with the team.
Upcoming Music Tour
Cole is set to embark on a world tour in July to support his latest album. The tour includes several North American dates in cities such as Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.
This tour signifies his return to the music scene following his recent basketball endeavors. Cole's career demonstrates a willingness to explore diverse talents, from music to professional sports.
