Hulu is expanding the 'Secret Lives of Mormon Wives' franchise with a new spin-off, 'The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County,' set in California.
New Location, New Stories
This new edition shifts the focus to Orange County, a religiously conservative and affluent area. The series introduces a fresh cast of young mothers as they navigate the complexities of faith, family, and modern life.
Meet the Cast
Leading the new group are podcaster Bobbi Althoff and actress Madison Bontempo. The cast also includes Aspyn Ovard, Avery Woods, Salomé Andrea, McCall DaPron, Chandler Higginson, Ashleigh Pease.
Exploring Faith and Identity
The show will delve into the unique dynamics of a community where Mormon beliefs are central to personal identity. It will explore the tensions between tradition and change, showcasing the collision of personalities and perspectives.
According to the series logline, the women are navigating a world where “beliefs are not just their religion; they are their identity.” Some will defend their way of life, while others embrace change and seek to disrupt the status quo.
Challenges for the Original Series
The arrival of the spin-off comes as the original series faces production delays. Allegations of domestic assault against cast member Taylor Frankie Paul led to the shelving of her Bachelorette season and a pause in production for Season 5.
Despite these challenges, producer Jeff Jenkins previously expressed confidence in expanding the franchise. Jeff Jenkins Productions, 3BMG, and Select Entertainment are producing the new series.
Premiere Date
“The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County” is expected to premiere later this year. The series aims to capture the raw realities of these women’s lives as they navigate community expectations and modern society.
