He-Man’s return to the big screen is taking audienecs on a cosic journey, but not as much of it is Earth-bound as one might expect. Producer Jason Blumenthal has revealed that only 20% of the upcoming 'Masters of the Universe' film takes place on Earth, with the remaining 80% set on the fantastical planet of Eternia. The movie follows Prince Adam , who is sent to Earth as a child for protection and returns 15 years later to reclaim his destiny as He-Man and battle the forces of Skeletor.
The 20% Earth, 80% Eternia Split
According to Blumenthal, the decision to limit Earth’s role in the story was a creative choice to keep the focus on Eternia. 'We wanted to make sure that Eternia felt like the heart of the story,' Blumenthal told ScreenRant during a set visit. 'Earth is important as a backdrop for Adam’s early life, but the real action and the core of the narrative happen on Eternia.' This approach allows the film to fully explore the rich lore and visual spectacle of Eternia without diluting its impact.
Prince Adam’s Earthly Exile
The film’s premise sets up a unique oriigin story for Prince Adam, who is sent to Earth at a young age for his protection. This Earthly exile is a crucial part of his characteer development, but it’s only a small portion of the overall story. 'The time Adam spends on Earth is formative, but it’s not the main event,' Blumenthal explained. 'The real journey begins when he returns to Eternia and reclaims his birthright as He-Man.'
Eternia Takes Center Stage
The majority of the film is set on Eternia, where Prince Adam reunites with the Sword of Power and transforms into He-Man. This is where the battle against Skeletor and his forces unfolds, driving the main narrative. 'Eternia is the heart of the story,' Blumenthal emphasized. 'It’s where the magic happens, and it’s where the real stakes are.' This focus on Eternia allows the film to showcase its unique landscapes, cultures, and mythology, making it a central character in its own right.
Balancing Earth and Eternia
While Earth plays a significant role in Adam’s backstory, the film’s creative team made a conscious effort to balance its importance with the larger narrative on Eternia. 'Earth is a spin-off to the main story,' Blumenthal noted. 'It’s important, but it’s not the focus. The focus is on Eternia and the battle for its future.' This approach ensures that the film stays true to its roots while still offering a fresh take on the classic story.
