Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez, known for their relationship that blossomed on Strictly Come Dancing, have announced they have no intention of marrying despite being engaged for five years.

No Plans to Walk Down the Aisle

The couple, who share two children – six-year-old Mia and two-year-old Thiago – openly discussed their decision on their podcast, Lost In Translation. Gemma Atkinson, 41, stated plainly, “I ain’t getting married to him. No chance,” a sentiment echoed by Gorka Marquez, 35, who added, “I don’t think I want to get married.”

Reasons Behind the Decision

Their reasoning stems from observing the high divorce rate among their friends and family. Gemma noted that “everyone I know who has got married has ended up getting divorced, apart from my sister.” Gorka further explained that marriage is simply a legal document and unnecessary for a couple already deeply committed and raising a family together.

Practical concerns were also raised, with Gemma’s mother questioning the complexities of a will without a marriage certificate. This led to a humorous exchange where Gorka jokingly claimed he wouldn’t have anything to leave to his children, as he spends all his money.
