Lucasfilm and Dark Horse Comics unveiled a new comic colllection featuring Clone Force 99 at San Diego Comic-Con 2026.. The upcoming trade paperback continues the stories of the squad from The Bad Batch during the Clone Wars era.
A 104-page mission to recover a Separatist scientist
Dark Horse Comics officially revealed Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories: The Bad Batch – Rogue Agents during the "Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away" panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. According to the report, the collection is scheduled for release on November 3 and will carry a retail price of $19.99 USD.
The narrative follows Hunter, Wrecker, Crosshair, and Tech as they hunt for a missing Separatist scientist. the plot centers on a dangerous invention that could alter the course of the Clone Wars, though the squad discovers they are competing against other mysterious groups in a galaxy-wide chase.
Filling the void after the 2024 Disney+ finale
The announcement comes more than two years after Star Wars: The Bad Batch concluded its third and final season on Disney+ in 2024.. This shift suggests a broader Lucasfilm strategy of utiizing the comic medium to sustain popular character arcs that have reached their natural conclusion on screen.
By placing Rogue Agents within the Clone Wars timeline, Lucasfilm avoids contradicting the established canon of the animated series.. This allows the franchise to explore "lost" missions and maintain the military-style chemistry of Clone Force 99 without needing to rewrite the series' emotional ending.
Michael Moreci returns for the Rogue Agents sequel
The creative team for this collection remains consistent with the previous Ghost Agents miniseries. as reported, writer Michael Moreci is joined by penciler Reese Hannigan, inker Elisabetta D'Amico, colorist Michael Atiyeh, and the lettering team at Comicraft.
The trade paperback gathers four issues of the Rogue Agents miniseries, which originally ran from December 31, 2025, to July 15, 2026. This continuity in the creative staff ensures that the visual and narrative tone remains aligned with the earlier Ghost Agents stories.
The road to the 2027 50th anniversary celebration
The Rogue Agents reveal was part of a larger publishing slate from Lucasfilm. Other upcoming titles include Star Wars: Tales from the Outer Rim, Vol. 1 – The Legend of Beggar's Canyon in January 2027 and Star Wars: A New Hope – Triple Take in May 2027, the latter coinciding with the franchise's 50th anniversary.
Despite these expansions, it remains unclear if Lucasfilm has any intention of returning Clone Force 99 to the screen . The current announcements focus exclusively on print media, leaving fans to wonder if the comic series is a permanent replacement for animated content or a bridge to a future revival.
