The seventh annual Arctic Comic Con 2026 in Anchorage concluded this weekend, experiencing a significant 25% increase in attendance. The event brought together hundreds of fans, showcasing celebrity appearances, gaming tournaments, and a thriving fan community.

A Celebration of Pop Culture

The Dena’ina Center was transformed into a hub of activity, with all three floors dedicated to vendors, celebrity guests, and interactive experiences. This year’s convention featured a diverse range of attractions, solidifying its position as a key event for pop culture enthusiasts in Alaska.

Celebrity Lineup & Fan Reactions

Attendees had the opportunity to meet actors Theo Rossi, Ron Perlman, Mindy Sterling, Kathleen Herles, and Laz Alonso. Wrestling legend Jake the Snake Roberts also made an appearance. Kathleen Herles, best known as the voice of Dora the Explorer, expressed her gratitude for the enthusiastic reception. “Everyone’s been so nice,” she remarked. “I feel all of the Dora love, and it’s been so great. I’m sad it’s only two days, but I’m sure it’ll just keep growing, and then maybe I’ll be back.”

Organizers Reflect on Success

Co-founder Mike Lajoie highlighted the dedication involved in organizing the event. “I spend 52 weeks planning this event,” he said. “I’m blessed with one of the best teams I could ever ask for, and we literally work all year to put this weekend on.” He added, “People are gravitating to this, it’s overwhelmingly positive, inclusive. Everybody here is welcome here, and it’s a great environment.”

Local Safety Concerns

While the convention was a success, Anchorage also faced safety challenges during the weekend. A shooting in East Anchorage resulted in five injuries, with two victims requiring hospitalization.

In a separate incident, multiple individuals were rescued from an avalanche on Flattop Mountain, underscoring the region’s ongoing safety concerns.
