Stars of the hit comedy Amandaland, Philippa Dunne and Lucy Punch, made a stunning appearance at the BAFTA TV Awards, though neither took home the Best Comedy Actress award. Despite the loss, the show itself won in the Best Comedy Scripted category, cementing its place as a fan favorite.
From Football Mum to Glamorous Star
Philippa Dunne, known for her role as downtrodden right-hand woman Anne in Amandaland, underwent a dramatic transformation for the awards. Swapping her character's signature football-mum coat and baby carrier for a dazzling Sister Jane floral sequin dress, the 44-year-old actress was nearly unrecognizable. She accessorized with elegant Boodles jewellery, chic slicked-back hair, and glamorous makeup, looking worlds away from her on-screen persona.
Fun Skit and Strong Competition
Dunne and Punch took part in a playful skit on stage, showcasing their chemistry beyond the show. Both were nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy for their roles in Amandaland, which returned for a critically acclaimed second series. However, the award went to Katherine Parkinson for her performance in Here We Go. Jennifer Saunders, who plays Aunt Joan in the BBC show, was also nominated in the same category.
Show's Success Despite Individual Loss
While the stars missed out on individual accolades, Amandaland celebrated a victory in the Best Comedy Scripted category. The show's second series has been well-received, proving its enduring popularity among audiences and critics alike.
