Four-year-old Michael Girgis is preparing to make history this May as he becomes the youngest pianist ever to perform at Carnegie Hall.
A Rising Star
Despite his age, Michael possesses an exceptional passion and talent for music. He described his dedication simply, stating to 7News, “I like playing music. I like playing piano, nothing else. You have to work hard so you’ll get more money.” This ambition highlights his serious approach to his craft.
Overcoming Challenges
To comfortably reach the piano pedals, Michael utilizes a specialized Piano Pedal Extender. His mother explained they initially used a chair, but the extender proved to be a more effective solution for the young pianist.
From Early Interest to Competition Wins
Michael’s musical journey began with an interest sparked by his siblings’ piano lessons. He quickly progressed, beginning formal lessons at age three and now practices three days a week for 30-45 minutes each session.
Accolades and Recognition
Michael’s website showcases numerous awards, including first-place wins in the International Music Competition and the New York Piano Protégé International Music Talent Competition. He earned the Carnegie Hall invitation by winning the 2026 American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition.
Family Excitement
Magdy Girgis, Michael’s father, expressed his amazement, stating, “It’s something we couldn’t have dreamed of, was hoping, but it’s actually real, so we’re very, very excited about that.”
