Oakland Teen Achieves Full College Acceptance
Dominic Antoine Jr., an 18-year-old senior at Fremont High School in East Oakland, California, has been accepted to all 31 colleges he applied to. This remarkable achievement was announced on National College Decision Day, May 1st.
LSU Selected for Pre-Med Studies
Known as 'Pooda,' Antoine will attend Louisiana State University (LSU) with plans to major in biology on a pre-med track. He aspires to become an orthopedic surgeon. Despite offers from prestigious universities like UCLA and UC Berkeley, as well as Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) such as Howard, Tennessee State, and Morgan State, Antoine felt LSU was the best fit.
Scholarship and Early Acceptance Influenced Decision
Antoine was particularly attracted to LSU’s early acceptance offer and a significant merit-based scholarship. These factors played a key role in his final decision.
A Student-Athlete with Exceptional Qualities
Antoine is a dedicated student with a 4.3 GPA and a talented athlete. He is a varsity basketball player recently named first team all-league. He gained viral attention at the Black College Expo when strangers celebrated his academic success.
Coach and Principal Praise Antoine’s Leadership
His coach, Derek Smith, of The Right Way Academy, has mentored Antoine for four years and describes him as a leader he wouldn’t trade. Fremont High School’s principal also recognizes Antoine as a caring advocate for all students.
Creative College Announcement
Antoine announced his college choice on Instagram with a video symbolizing his transition from basketball to a medical career. The video shows him trading his basketball gear for a medical coat, representing his commitment to becoming a doctor. His car, decorated with university pennants, culminates with an LSU Tigers pennant.
