Parents Left in the Dark

Abbotsholme School's sudden closure has left parents reeling, with many receiving less than an hour's notice. The school, which charges up to £44 ,000 a year, was sold by its Chinese owners Achieve Education at the end of May and was acquired by Syd Phillimore and Jamie Buchanan.

According to a letter from school proprietor Tony Costigan, today, Wednesday 10 June , 2026, will be the last day the school is open this academic year to pupils who are not sitting exams.

The New Owners' U-Turn

The new owners initially decided to close the school later this month but later changed their minds and announced that the school would remain open in September. However, parents received a letter from the school proprietor, Tony Costigan, confirming the school would close.

Devastated parents have been left to pick up the pieces, with the school's Executive Head Charlotte Molloy and its new owners nowhere to be seen to explain what had happened.

Staff Left in the Lurch

The school's dedicated staff, who have not been paid for two months, are left to deal with the fallout of the sudden closure. The lack of communication from the new owners has left many feeling frustrated and unsupported.

What's Next for Abbotsholme?

The sudden closure of Abbotsholme School raises questions about the future of the school and its students. Will the new owners provide support and guidance to the students and staff, or will they leave them to fend for themselves?
