A 28-year-old man, Reece Salmon, was killed in a stabbing on Lloyd Baker Street in Clerkenwell last Wednesday. The incident has shocked the affluent Islington area as authorities search for a suspect who has not yet been caught.

Salmon’s criminal history suggests a man deeply embedded in organized crime long before his death in Islington. In 2019, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery across several areas, including Camden, Westminster, and the City of London, resulting in a prison sentence of nearly four years.
Following his release in the UK, Salmon transitioned into international fraud operations. He moved to New Zealand, where he became a key operative for a UK-based criminal organization. This shift from street-level violence to sophisticated financial exploitation highlights a pattern of evolving criminal tactics that spanned two continents.
The $400,000 Pensioner Fraud in Wellington
In New Zealand, Salmon was central to a massive fraud campaign that targeted vulnerable citizens. According to the Daily Mail, Salmon and his associates posed as police officers to trick victims into believing they were part of an undercover investigation. This deception led victims, some aged between 69 and 95, to hand over large sums of money and gold bullion.
The scale of the theft was significant, involving 19 different victims between July 2024 and early August. Salmon acted as a courier, arriving at homes with codewords to collect the stolen goods. His activities were ultimately halted when police intercepted him while he was attempting to collect $170,000 in gold bullion. In total, the scheme resulted in the theft of $239,500 in cash and $172,000 in gold.
Seven Months After Deportation to Islington
Salmon’s return to the United Kingdom came shortly after he served time in New Zealand. After being sentenced to four years for his role in the fraud,he was granted parole in February 2024 and subsequently deported back to Britain. at the time of his sentencing in the Wellington District Court, a judge noted that Salmon was young and had the potential to change if he separated himself from criminal influences.
However,Salmon had only been back in the Islington area for seven months when the fatal stabbing occurred on September 16. The fact that a known international fraudster and former gang membeer was killed in an affluent neighborhood like Clerkenwell underscores the unpredictable nature of his return to London.
