Three teenagers have been sentenced for the manslaughter of Alexander Cashford, 49, following a brutal assault that was filmed and shared on social media. The incident began with an encounter where Mr. Cashford made inappropriate advances towards a 16-year-old girl.

The Initial Encounter and Planning

The teenagers – a 16-year-old girl and two boys aged 14 and 15 at the time of the offense – lured Mr. Cashford to a remote location under false pretenses. They had saved his number under the derogatory label ‘pedo’.

The attack was meticulously planned, with the group agreeing to ambush Mr. Cashford while the girl recorded the assault. The older boy initiated the violence by striking Mr. Cashford with a bottle.

The Assault and its Aftermath

The assault included repeated kicks and being pelted with rocks. The girl actively encouraged the violence, shouting abusive language and filming the entire ordeal. Despite Mr. Cashford attempting to flee, he was relentlessly pursued and repeatedly knocked to the ground.

Mr. Cashford sustained over 30 external wounds, ultimately leading to his death at the scene. The prosecution emphasized that the teenagers’ actions far exceeded any justifiable response, despite their misguided belief they were protecting a minor.

At the Old Bailey, the 16-year-old girl and the older boy each received a seven-year sentence, while the younger boy was sentenced to five years. Judge Mrs. Justice Cheema-Grubb described the incident as ‘appalling’ and a ‘senseless loss of life’.
