On November 27, 16-year-old Timothy Hudson was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse following the death of his 18-year-old stepsister, Anna Kepner, aboard the Carnival Horizon cruise ship. the case, initially handled in juvenile court, has since been transferred to adult court , raising questions about the handling of such cases involving minors.
From Juvenile to Adult Court
Usually, minors are not prosecuted in federal court. However, in Hudson's case, the severity of the charges led to the transfer to adult court. U.S. Magistrate Judge Edwin Torres initially allowed Hudson to live with an uncle and be electronically monitored . Prosecutors ,however, have requested that Hudson be held in custody until the trial's conclusion.
Anna Kepner's Death
Anna Kepner, a high school cheerleader, was found concealed under a bed in a room she was sharing with Hudson and another teen.. According to the medical examiner's report, her cause of death was mechanical asphyxia. Her father, Christopher Kepner, has placed his trust in the justice system to pursue the truth with care and integrity.
