Police in the Durham Region are looking into two distinct shooting events that took place in Ajax and Pickering this past weekend. Although gunfire hit several vehicles and houses,no one was hurt.
Gunfire strikes a home and two vehicles in Ajax
Durham Regional Police responded to the first shooting incident near the intersection of Chalmers and Blackburn crescents in Ajax at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sunday. this area is located in close proximity to Harwood Avenue South and Kingston Road West.
The Ajax shooting caused extensive damage to a residence, a garage, and two vehicles, according to the report. While officers initially conducted a search of the area without finding immediate evidence, they later located several shell casings on the roadway directly in front of the residence.
The black-clad suspect caught on Pickering surveillance
A second shooting occurred later that Sunday evening, just before 8:30 p.m., near the intersection of Shadybrook Drive and Edgewood Road in Pickering. This incident took place in the vicinity of Whites Road and Sheppard Avenue.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators shows an individual in black clothing approaching the home on foot. As reported by Durham Regional Police, the individual discharged multiple rounds at vehicles parked in the driveway before fleeing the scene on foot.. The gunfire also caused damage to the residence and two vehicles parked in the driveway.
Why Durham Regional Police label these as isolated events
Durham Regional Police Service investigators currently believe that these two shootings are isolated incidents rather than part of a coordinated spree. the department has stated that there is no evidence to suggest a broader threat to the local community at this time.
The department is actively seeking assistance from the public, asking anyone with relevant video footage or information to contact investigators at 905-579-1520, extension 1905. these efforts are being managed through the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch.
Uncertainty surrounding the three adults in the Ajax residence
Several critical questions remain regarding the intent and the potential targets of these weekend shootings. specifically, investigators have not yet clarified if the three adults who were inside the Ajax home during the 2:00 a .m. to 3:00 a.m. window were the intended targets of the gunfire.
It also remains unverified whether the Ajax and Pickering incidents are connected by a single perpetrator or a shared motive. While both events involved damage to vehicles and homes, the geographic separation and the different timing of the attacks leave the connection between the two scenes an open question for the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch.
