Pooh Shiesty, Big30 Charged in Dallas Studio Kidnapping
Federal Charges Filed in Armed Robbery
Nine individuals, including rappers Pooh Shiesty and Big30, have been charged with federal crimes related to a kidnapping and armed robbery that occurred at a recording studio in Dallas, Texas. The incident involved Atlanta rap superstar Gucci Mane, whose real name is Radric Davis.
The Incident Unfolds
According to the Department of Justice, the charges stem from a meticulously planned ambush on January 10th. Prosecutors allege the group lured victims to Texas under the pretense of a business meeting, which quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.
Details of the Planned Ambush
The victims arrived in Dallas believing they were attending a meeting regarding a contract dispute involving Pooh Shiesty, whose legal name is Lontrell Williams Jr. Instead, they were met by armed suspects who initiated a coordinated takeover of the studio.
Pooh Shiesty allegedly brandished an AK-style pistol and forced Gucci Mane to sign documents releasing him from his contract under threat of violence. Simultaneously, other suspects drew firearms and robbed those present in the studio.
Robbery and Victim Accounts
One victim was reportedly forced onto a couch and robbed of their wallet and jewelry. Another was choked to the point of near unconsciousness and had a Rolex watch and Louis Vuitton bag stolen. Rodney Wright Jr., also known as Big30, is accused of blocking the studio door to prevent escape during the robbery.
Investigation and Evidence
The FBI Dallas Violent Crimes Task Force led the investigation, with support from multiple agencies in Texas and Tennessee. Investigators compiled evidence including surveillance footage, cell phone data, and social media posts linking the suspects to the crime.
Pre-Planning and Escape
Evidence suggests a detailed pre-planning stage, including the organization of the meeting by Pooh Shiesty’s father and the printing of documents related to the alleged extortion. The perpetrators fled in multiple vehicles, including a Dodge Charger Hellcat, a Dodge Ram truck, and a rented Buick Enclave.
Further Evidence and Arrests
Cellphone records, surveillance footage, and license plate reader data revealed the suspects traveled together from Memphis to Dallas. Eight of the nine defendants were apprehended this week in Dallas and Memphis. Electronic monitoring data also placed Pooh Shiesty at the studio despite being under home confinement for a prior firearms conviction.
Potential Penalties
The charges include kidnapping and conspiracy to commit kidnapping, carrying potential sentences of up to life in federal prison upon conviction. The investigation remains ongoing.
