A man is in police custody following the hospitalization of two women after a brutal assault at a vacant property in North Philadelphia.

Violent Attack Unfolds

Philadelphia Police responded to a stabbing report around 3:00 AM on Friday morning, arriving at the 2200 block of Cleveland Street. Officers discovered a woman in her thirties with significant stab wounds to her leg at the intersection of 18th and Dauphin streets.

Swift Police Intervention

The first victim was immediately transported to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition. She informed officers she had been attacked by a man inside a vacant property on Cleveland Street, and another woman was also under attack.

Acting on this information, officers entered the building and interrupted an ongoing assault. They found a man actively assaulting a second woman and successfully secured the suspect.

Injuries and Evidence

The second victim sustained injuries to her head and was also transported to a nearby hospital. The conditions of both victims, as well as the suspect, are currently unknown.

Investigators recovered a knife and a crowbar at the scene, believed to be the weapons used in the attack. Preliminary findings suggest the first victim was stabbed, while the second was struck in the head with the crowbar.

Investigation Ongoing

Chief Inspector Scott Small praised the 22nd district police for their swift response and apprehension of the suspect. Authorities believe both victims likely endured sexual assault in addition to physical harm.

The suspect, estimated to be in his thirties or forties, is currently in police custody as detectives determine appropriate charges. The investigation is ongoing, with forensic teams examining the vacant property for further evidence.

Police are committed to community safety and will provide updates as the investigation progresses. Support services are being offered to the victims to help them cope with the trauma.
