Former Employee Accused of Elaborate Scheme
A former Chick-fil-A employee in Texas has been arrested and charged with stealing approximately $80,000 from the fast-food chain. Keyshun Jones, who was terminated from his position in November of last year, is accused of exploiting a loophole in the restaurant’s refund system.
Details of the Fraud
Repeated Fake Orders
According to authorities, Jones repeatedly entered the Grapevine, Texas Chick-fil-A location after his dismissal. He allegedly processed over 800 orders for mac and cheese, a popular item on the menu, and then refunded the transactions to his personal credit card.
The cost of each mac and cheese order ranged from $5 to $10, depending on size and location. The total amount fraudulently obtained is estimated to be around $80,000.
Arrest and Potential Penalties
Keyshun Jones was apprehended on April 17 by the Texas Attorney General’s Fugitive Task Force, working in collaboration with the Fort Worth Police Department. If convicted, Jones faces a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years.
Impact and Security Measures
This case has prompted discussions regarding security protocols within fast-food establishments. The Chick-fil-A franchise in Grapevine has reportedly implemented stricter measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice notes that mac and cheese is also served in state prisons.
