Durham Regional Police have charged a 65-year-old man following a disturbing incident at the Dianne Harme Recreation Centre in Newcastle, Ontario.

The incident occurred on April 9, between 8 and 9 p.m., within the men’s changeroom at the recreation centre, located at 1780 Rudell Road. A 12-year-old child was using the shower facilities when Eugene Gareau allegedly repeatedly pulled back the privacy curtain.
Suspect's Actions
Despite the victim’s attempts to close the curtain, the suspect continued his actions. After the child exited the shower area, Gareau allegedly followed them and attempted to start an unwanted conversation.
Charges and Arrest
Eugene Gareau was arrested at his residence on April 18 without incident. He has been charged with secretly observing or recording a person in a state of nudity and exposing genitals to a person under the age of 16 for a sexual purpose.
