A 49-year-old man accused of attempting to abduct a seven-year-old girl from a school in Chilliwack, B .C., was already wanted for an alleged armed assault in Vancouver last month. Joel McGillis, who was wearing a "purple bunny-like mask," tried to remove the girl from Chilliwack Central Elementary School grounds on Wednesday morning. The attempt was thwarted by a concerned parent who intervened and brought the child back to the school unharmed.

The $30 million toe in the water

According to Chilliwack RCMP, McGillis was not under any police undertaking or bail in relation to the weapons offence when the alleged kidnapping occurred.. Instead, the process was by way of warrant. This raises questions about how a person with a history of criminal convictions, including theft and break and enter, was able to evade authorities long enough to allegedly commit another serious crime.

Why 4,000 unsold units became the prize

Supt. Darren Pankratz with Chilliwack RCMP credited the astute observation of a parent for preventing the abduction. the parent noticed the situation wasn't right and brought the girl back to school unharmed before notifying police. this incident serves as a reminder for parents to have conversations with their children about safety and to remain vigilant.

An echo of Sydney's 2024 institutional buy-up

McGillis has a criminal history dating back 25 years, with convictions for offences including theft and break and enter. Online court records show that a person with the same name and birth year appeared in Vancouver provincial court on Thursday, charged over an alleged April 4 assault with a weapon. he then appeared in Abbotsford on Friday morning, charged with kidnpaping someone under 16.

Who is the unnamed buyer?

Damienne Darby with the British Columbia Prosecution Service confirmed that it was the same man involved in both incidents. However, the identity of the alleged kidnapping victim is under a publication ban, as are details from any bail proceedings in the case.. RCMP are asking anyone who saw a person wearing a purple mask on Wednesday morning to contact them.
