The Sault Ste. Marie Canal Reopens with a Splash

Parks Canada has officially opened the Sault Ste. Marie Canal for the 2026 season, bringing with it a plethora of new exhibits, guided tours, and the return of beloved traditions like Summer Teas.

Free admission is available this summer through the Canada Strong Pass, allowing visitors to explore the site's rich history and culture without any additional costs.

The Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site has reopened for the season with new exhibits and programs, including a new touchscreen exhibit on the Emergency Swing Dam that highlights its engineering significance.

The gift shop features local souvenirs, and two guided tours are available: "Where Waters Connect" on North St. marys Island and "Echoes of the Rapids" on South St... Marys Island, both focusing on Anishinaabe history and culture.

Fatbike rentals are offered for outdoor exploration, and the popular "Summer Teas" tradition returns to the Superintendent's Residence on specific dates in July and August.

The 2026 season includes enhanced programming and returning favorites, making it an exciting time to visit the Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site.
