Investors in the mental health startup Wondermind have filed a lawsuit alleging fraud against Selena Gomez and her mother, Mandy Teefey. The legal action claims the founders misrepresented the company's stability while it was actually facing a collapse.
The legal dispute follows a period of reported internal instability at the wellness organization. As reported by The Daily Mail, the controversy gained momentum after an exposé by The Cut revealed significant disarray behind the scenes of the company.
The $1.2 million investor deception
The plaintiffs, identified as Wondermind SRS 44, LLC and Bespoke Wondermind SPV I, LLC, are seeking a jury trial to resolve claims of financial deception. according to court documents obtained by The Daily Mail, these investors allege they were "hoodwinked" into believing the organization possessed the necessary resources for long-term success.
The lawsuit claims that while $1.2 million was poured into the organization, the founders allegedly kept investors in the dark about the company's true condition for more than three years. The plaintiffs argue that they were led to believe they were funding a robust, growing platform when, in reality, the company was already in a state of decline.
Allegations of a non-existent app and broken contracts
Specific claims in the lawsuit suggest that the core products promised to investors never actually reached fruition. The legal filing alleges that the company's mobile application was never built and that several key business initiatives never materialized as promised.
Furthermore, the lawsuit targets the personal involvement of the founders, including Daniella Pierson and Selena Gomez. The claim specifically alleges that Gomez "purported to sign a contract obligating her to perform" certain duties, only to subsequently ignore those obligations. The plaintiffs contend that the infrastructure and leadership they were promised to support a profitable wellness platform simply did not exist.
From a 2021 launch to 60% staff layoffs
Wondermind was established in 2021 by Gomez, Teefey, and Pierson, inspired by the founders' personal mental health journeys. however, the company's trajectory shifted significantly following a financial crisis that emerged in May 2025.
During that period, reports surfaced indicating that the platform was struggling to remain solvent, leading to the layoff of 60 per cent of its workforce. this mass reduction in staff serves as a primary point of contention for investors who claim the scale of the collapse was intentionally concealed from them during their initial funding rounds.
Rosengart’s "meritless" deefnse and the missing financial trail
Selena Gomez's attorney, Mathew S. Rosengart, has responded to the legal challenges by dismissing the entire case. In a statement to The Daily Mail, Rosengart characterized the allegations as "completely meritless," both in terms of their legal standing and their factual basis.
Despite this vigorous defense, several critical questions remain for the court to decide. It is currently unknown exactly how the $1.2 million in investment capital was allocated during the years the company was allegedly in decline. Additionally, the specific reasons why the promised mobile app and various partnerships failed to materialize remain unverified, leaving the true state of Wondermind's operational capacity in question.
