Trinny Woodall, the former What Not To Wear star, has shared how the financial fallout from her ex-husband Johnny Elichaoff's 2014 suicide propelled her to build her £180 million beauty brand, Trinny London. After Elichaoff's death, Woodall faced a £300,000 debt from his failed oil investments, leading to a court battle that nearly derailed her. The legal victory in 2016 left her financially strained but determined to launch her own business.

£300 ,000 Debt and a Legal Battle

According to Davina McCall's Begin Again podcast, Woodall's ex-husband Johnny Elichaoff took his own life in 2014 after losing his fortune in oil investments. Before his death, he confessed to Woodall that he had "lost everything." His prior bankruptcy meant that the £300,000 debt was legally transferred to Woodall, despite their divorce. Creditors pursued her for the sum, claiming she should have been providing financial support. A judge dismissed the case in late 2016, ruling it had "no merit."

The Urgency to Launch Trinny London

As reported by the podcast, Woodall's residual income was drying up, and she felt pressured to find a solution. Many advised her to seek a regular job, but she was determined to launch her own business. She described the momet she decided to take the plunge: "There's no superficial reasoning to prevent you from actually making the decision and doing it. It was raw. Everything came together, and that was the catalyst."

From Desperation to a £180 Million Empire

The process was far from easy.. Woodall had to rent out her home and hold a clothing sale to cover expenses. She bootstrapped the business initially to maintain control before expanding. What began as a moment of desperation ultimately evolved into a multimillion-dollar success story. Trinny London, launched in 2017, is now valued at an astonishing £180 million.

Trinny's Advice: Execute Ideas

Speaking candidly, Woodall emphasized the importance of executing ideas rather than merely contemplating them. "When we have ideas inside our head, they're safe," she said. "We don't have to execute on them. We can live the fantasy of them, but at some stage, you have to take it out of your head." Her persistence and determination paid off spectacularly, turning her vision into a reality .
