The Jaecoo 8, a new six or seven-seater SUV from Chinese brand Jaecoo, has been launched in the United Kingdom. It is designed to compete with popular models such as the Kia Sorento and Land Rover Defender by providing a high level of features and value.

Building on Success

Jaecoo, a Chinese car brand gaining traction in the UK, is expanding its lineup with the Jaecoo 8. This launch follows the success of the Jaecoo 7, nicknamed the ‘Temu Range Rover’, and aims to further disrupt the family SUV market.

Configuration and Competitors

The Jaecoo 8 is available in six or seven-seat configurations, referred to by Jaecoo as ‘4+2’ or ‘5+2’ layouts. It directly targets rivals including the Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Volkswagen Tayron, and Land Rover Defender, promising a superior value proposition.

Interior Features and Comfort

The six-seater prioritizes luxury with captain seats offering extensive adjustability, heating, ventilation, massage functions, and premium materials like eco-leather and a suede headliner. The seven-seater provides a more conventional layout while still maintaining a high level of standard equipment.

Technology and Space

Both versions feature dual 12.3-inch screens, a head-up display, a 14-speaker Sony sound system, and intelligent voice command. Boot space is 110 litres with all seats up, expanding to 728 litres with the rearmost seats folded – exceeding the Hyundai Santa Fe’s capacity.

Exterior Design

The Jaecoo 8 showcases the brand’s signature waterfall grille for enhanced brand recognition. Its design has evolved from the Jaecoo 7, adopting a more refined aesthetic similar to the Audi Q7, with flowing lines, sculpted sides, and full lightbars.

Premium Interior Experience

The interior is equipped with soft-touch materials, faux wood trim, and artificial leather, creating a comfortable cabin. Seats are designed for both plushness and support, with a massage function for added relaxation.

Test Drive and Value Proposition

Freda Lewis-Stempel conducted a comprehensive test drive of the Jaecoo 8, evaluating its performance both on and off-road. The vehicle’s focus on features and competitive pricing positions it as a strong contender in the family SUV segment.

Market Ambitions

Despite limited boot space with all seats in use, the Jaecoo 8 offers ample cargo capacity when configured for fewer passengers. The Jaecoo 8 represents a significant step for the brand, demonstrating its ambition to challenge established automotive players in the UK.
