Audi Recalls Nearly 20,000 Electric Vehicles
Volkswagen Group of America is conducting a recall of 18,853 Audi e-tron and e-tron Sportback vehicles in the United States. This recall addresses a potential defect in the braking system that could result in a loss of braking capability.
Brake Pedal Defect Details
The issue centers around a potentially loose screw connecting the brake pedal’s input rod to the brake booster actuator rod. This connection may not have been adequately tightened during the manufacturing process. A loosening or separation of this connection could lead to a loss of normal braking function.
NHTSA and Vehicle Scope
Details of the recall have been published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall includes 14,102 Audi e-tron vehicles from model years 2019-2024 and 4,751 Audi e-tron Sportback vehicles from model years 2020-2024.
Proactive Recall & Safety Measures
As of early April 2026, Audi reports no confirmed incidents of crashes, injuries, or fatalities related to this defect. However, the company initiated the recall following an internal review that identified similarities to a previous recall in 2024. This proactive approach demonstrates a commitment to passenger safety.
Symptoms and What to Do
Drivers may notice unusual noises from the braking system or a brake pedal that doesn’t fully return to its resting position. If these symptoms occur, immediate attention is advised. Owners should familiarize themselves with the emergency braking system as outlined in their owner’s manual.
Recall Remedy and Timeline
The fix involves authorized Audi dealerships inspecting the brake booster’s pushrod screw connection. Technicians will tighten the connection to the manufacturer’s specified torque if necessary. Audi will also reimburse customers for prior related repairs.
Notification Dates
Dealers were notified on April 17, 2026, and vehicle owners will receive recall notices by mail starting June 12, 2026. Owners are encouraged to schedule an inspection once they receive their official notice.
