Kusanagi Mizuho’s beloved manga series, Yona, is continuing with new side stories, and a long-awaited anime sequel has been confirmed after a ten-year hiatus.
Manga Continues After Conclusion
The critically acclaimed manga officially concluded its main storyline in December 2025. However, the story didn’t end there. In February, new side stories began publishing in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine.
This continuation arrives sixteen years after the manga’s initial debut, offering a glimpse into the lives of the characters following the conclusion of their epic journey. The ongoing side story will be compiled into the final Volume 48 of the manga, though a specific release date is still to be announced.
Anime Sequel Confirmed
Exciting news has emerged regarding a potential anime revival. A sequel has been confirmed ten years after the conclusion of the first season, generating significant anticipation among fans.
Unfortunately, concrete details regarding the anime’s production, release date, or a teaser have yet to be revealed. Official announcements from the franchise are expected throughout the year.
New Side Story Details & Artwork
The current side story’s second chapter focuses on the aftermath of the intense battle at Hiryuu Castle. Kusanagi Mizuho has been actively promoting the manga’s return, sharing a new visual featuring Hak, the series’ male lead.
The artwork depicts Hak in a modern outfit, cheerfully carrying a basket of buns with Ao perched on his shoulder. Mizuho also highlighted the inclusion of ‘Yona Gaiden 2’ in the latest issue of Hana to Yume, with a special Hakuyona acrylic stand as a bonus.
Hak's Role and Character Development
Hak has been Yona’s steadfast protector and childhood friend for three years. He demonstrated unwavering loyalty on the night of the king’s assassination, defending Yona and ensuring her escape.
Throughout their adventures, Hak harbored romantic feelings for Yona, which she eventually reciprocated. The final arc of the main story culminated in Zeno’s decision to break the cycle of suffering for the Dragon Warriors.
The Fate of the Dragon Warriors
The disappearance of the Dragon Gods led to the loss of the Dragon Warriors’ powers, transforming them into ordinary humans. This allowed them to forge their own destinies after centuries of service.
The Dragon Warriors parted ways with Yona, promising to reunite in the future. Yona, alongside Hak and Yoon, returned to Hiryuu Castle, assuming her rightful place as the kingdom’s ruler, marking a new chapter for both herself and the nation.
