Season 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has concluded, paving the way for a thrilling Season 3 adaptation of the highly regarded Golden Land Arc. A new visual featuring Genau has been released, and a first glimpse of Mahat of the Golden City hints at the challenges ahead.
Season 2 Recap & Golden Land Arc Introduction
The acclaimed anime series recently finished its second season, leaving fans eager for the continuation of Frieren and her companions’ adventures. The season finale concluded the arcs following the First Class Mage Exam and launched the anticipated Golden Land Arc, considered a highlight of the original manga.
This upcoming arc promises increased intensity as Frieren, Fern, and their party journey towards Aureole, the realm where souls find their final rest. Season 2 adapted the Continued Northern Travels and the Divine Revolte Arcs across ten episodes.
New Character Reveals: Genau & Mahat
Following the season’s conclusion, a character popularity poll resulted in a stunning new visual of Genau. Genau played a key role in the Divine Revolte Arc, and the artwork showcases his connection to avian creatures, with a bird perched on his arm.
Genau's Backstory
Initially introduced as a stern proctor of the First Class Mage Exam, Genau’s character was further developed in Season 2. His reunion with Frieren’s party occurred after the destruction of his village by a demon attack, revealing a hidden kindness beneath his cold exterior.
Mahat of the Golden City
A first look at Mahat of the Golden City has also been unveiled. Mahat is set to be a central figure in Season 3, being one of the formidable Seven Sages of Destruction, possessing immense power.
The Journey to the Golden Land
The party’s journey will lead them to a legendary land rumored to be entirely composed of gold. The existence of this Golden Land remains uncertain, but it is connected to Denken, a fellow First Class Mage who participated in the same exam as Fern.
Season 3 will see the party reuniting with Denken and assisting him as he prepares to confront a powerful adversary.
Manga Hiatus & Anime Availability
The manga is currently on indefinite hiatus due to health concerns affecting creators Kanehito Yamada (writer) and Tsukasa Abe (illustrator). This is the second hiatus for the series, following a brief resumption in July after a pause in January.
The creators are prioritizing their well-being and anticipate returning to publication within a few months. Fans can revisit the first two seasons on Crunchyroll, with Season 3 also expected to premiere on the same platform.
